چکیده

A Ni–Mn–Ga single crystal with a phase transformation temperature above 350 K is investigated. The material demonstrates a magnetic field-induced strain (MFIS) of 7% at room temperature and of 4.2% at 350 K. The temperature dependence of the magnetic anisotropy and of the saturation magnetization has been studied in detail. At 350 K a maximum magnetic stress of 1.6 MPa and a twinning stress of 0.6 MPa were measured, explaining the MFIS obtained at elevated temperatures.

Experimental Study on the Magnetomechanical Characteristics of Ni-Mn-Ga Ferromagnetic Shape Memory Alloy Single Crystals

Magnetic shape memory properties of Ni-Mn-Ga single crystals were characterized by measurement of stress-induced martensite reorientation under constant magnetic fields. Also magnetic field-induced strain as a function of the applied magnetic field under different constant compressive stress levels has been investigated. All the experiments were performed at room temperature in which the sample...

Martensitic Ni-Mn-Ga alloys with the five layered modulated structure (10M) provide a way to produce motion by the magnetic shape memory (MSM) effect. MSM actuation is based on alternating the twin structure by applying a magnetic field and/or mechanical stress at suitable ranges. For the actuator use, it is necessary to understand the long-term cyclic magneto-mechanical loading behavior of the...

The effect of post annealing on structure, microstructure and magnetic properties of thin Ni-Mn-Ga films

The magnetic shape memory (MSM) alloy Ni-Mn-Ga is an active material where large strains are obtained by magnetically induced reorientation (MIR) of martensitic variants. For the integration in microsystems, epitaxial thin films are in the centre of interest since the highest strains have only been obtained in single crystals. In order to minimize the technological effort, sputter deposition at...

The Properties of the Magnetic Shape Memory Alloy Actuator

Components made of alloys with a magnetic shape memory (MSMA) are not commonly used in industrial systems or prototype solutions. The reasons behind this include the cost and implementation difficulties attached to MSMA alloys synthesis technology. The article presents the results of a prototype actuator in which the active element is a rod made of Ni-Mn-Ga alloy and with dimensions of 2x1x20 m...

Effect of composition on the magnetic and elastic properties of shapememory Ni-Mn-Ga

The growing interest in ferromagnetic shape-memory Ni-Mn-Ga for implementation in actuator applications originates from the fact that this class of materials exhibits large strains when driven by a magnetic field. Large bidirectional strains up to a theoretical 6% are produced in these materials by twin boundary motion as martensite variants rotate to align respectively parallel or perpendicula...
